Cooking Fever XP Levels: The Real Gate on Your Progress
Most players assume Cooking Fever gates progress with money. It gates progress with two things, and the one nobody talks about is the account XP level, because it is the one you cannot buy your way past.
Two locks, not one
Every restaurant after the first sits behind a pair of requirements that both have to clear:
- An account XP level, which rises as you complete levels anywhere in the game
- A purchase in coins and gems, payable only once the level requirement is met
Coins and gems can be bought, earned, or in a modified build simply handed to you. XP cannot. It only comes from playing, which makes it the genuine limit on how fast anyone moves through the game.
How the requirements are spaced
The early game is generous. Restaurants arrive at levels 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12, so the first hours deliver a new kitchen almost every session. That pacing is deliberate and it is why the game feels fast at the start.
Then it stretches. By the twenties, requirements sit at 21, 22, 24, 25, 26 and 30. Past level 40 the spacing widens badly, and the last stretch runs 55, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 67 and finally level 69 for Mount Breakfast.
| Stage | XP levels | Feel |
| Opening | 1 to 12 | A new restaurant most sessions |
| Middle | 14 to 30 | Steady, roughly one per two levels gained |
| Late | 31 to 55 | Noticeably slower |
| Final stretch | 57 to 69 | One restaurant every two account levels |
Where people stall
The common wall is somewhere in the forties. By then you have usually unlocked more restaurants than you have fully equipped, the coin cost of upgrades has grown faster than your income, and the next location needs several more account levels rather than one.
The instinct at that point is to spend money on gems. It rarely helps, because gems buy the purchase half of the gate and the level half is what is actually blocking you. Spending there means owning a restaurant you still cannot open.
What actually raises XP faster: clearing levels you have not finished before, and when you have run out of those, replaying the highest paying level you can 3 star reliably rather than the easiest one you own. Our guide to which restaurant gives the most XP lists the payouts. Account levels also pay gems on the way up, which is one of the few free gem sources in the game. Our gems guide covers the rest.
How XP is actually earned
Account XP comes from the results screen of every level you clear, and it is paid on replays as well as first clears. What changes is the size of the payout. A comfortable early level pays a small amount of XP, so grinding it for coins can leave you richer and barely closer to the next unlock. A first clear of a new level pays XP and moves the restaurant forward at the same time, which is why new ground is usually the better use of a session.
Levelling the account is also one of the few activities Nordcurrent lists as paying both coins and gems. So progress on the XP track pays for the purchase track at the same time, and the reverse is not true: no amount of currency moves your account level.
If you are stuck, the diagnostic is simple. Open the next locked restaurant and read which requirement is red. If it is the price, spend an evening on the free gem sources. If it is the level, no purchase helps and the only route is levels you have not yet completed.
A worked example of the wall
Take a player at account level 40 with a healthy coin balance. Looking up the list, the next restaurants sit at levels 41, 42, 44, 45, 47 and 49.
- Level 41 arrives quickly enough to feel normal
- Level 42 is one more account level, still fine
- Then 44, and each account level now takes longer than the last because the XP curve widens
- By 47 and 49 the same player is completing a great deal of content per unlock
Nothing has gone wrong at that point. The game is behaving as designed. But it is the moment the pace changes from a new restaurant most sessions to a new restaurant every few days, and it is where most people either settle into a slower rhythm or go looking for a way around it.
What a modified build changes, and what it does not
This is worth being precise about, because a lot of pages are not. A modified build removes the purchase requirement. With the restaurant gate patched out, the coin and gem prices stop mattering and every location becomes reachable.
The 40 levels inside each restaurant still play in order, and the difficulty inside a late location is unchanged. So the mod removes the waiting, not the learning. Arriving at a level 69 restaurant without the practice the sequence gives you is a rough introduction.
Every restaurant with its XP level and price is listed in our unlock all restaurants guide, and that table doubles as the order the game intends you to learn in.

If you are stuck, check which half of the gate is actually stopping you before you spend anything. If it is coins and gems, there are free ways to earn both. If it is the XP level, the only route through is playing levels you have not cleared yet, and no purchase shortens it.
