Cooking Fever Not Working? Fixes for Crashing and Not Loading on Android, iPhone and PC
If Cooking Fever is not working on your phone or computer, the right fix depends on what you see: a crash on the Nordcurrent title screen, a black screen mid level, a loading bar that never finishes, or a window that stops responding. This guide gives you the steps for Android, iPhone and the Windows build from the Microsoft Store, in the order that keeps your progress safe, and says when to stop fixing and write to Nordcurrent. It is part of our Cooking Fever guides.
Cooking Fever not working: match the symptom first
Reports of Cooking Fever not working fall into four patterns, each with a different cause. Read the symptom before you act, so you do not reinstall a game that needed a restart or wipe a save a smaller step would have kept.
| What you see | Usual cause | Start here |
| Title screen, then the game closes | Corrupted settings or install | Windows: delete settings.dat. Phone: update, then reinstall |
| Loading bar never finishes | Connection, cache or storage | Check the connection, clear the cache, free space |
| Freeze or black screen mid level | Graphics driver or low memory | Close background apps. Windows: reinstall the graphics driver |
| Window says not responding | Temporary hang | End the task, reopen, restart the device |
Rule out two things first. Each store listing shows the minimum operating system the current build needs; the Microsoft Store page says Windows 10 version 15063.0 or higher, and a device below the line keeps failing whatever you clear. The game also needs a connection for its first launch, ads, events and Nordcurrent ID sync, even though levels run without one, and our guide to what works offline in Cooking Fever lists which parts need a signal. This page covers the official game; if you installed a modified build, the fixes differ and live on our Cooking Fever Mod APK page.
Protect your progress before you touch anything
Every fix that clears data, resets or reinstalls can delete a local save. Nordcurrent’s answer is Nordcurrent ID. Its help centre article on saving and restoring progress says to tap the gears icon in the bottom right corner of the main screen, open Settings, and use the log in button at the bottom of that window; once linked, signing in with the same account on a fresh install or a new device pulls the progress back. Do it while the game still opens, even for a minute, because you cannot link an account inside a game that will not load.
Link a Nordcurrent ID before you clear or reinstall anything. Nordcurrent’s article says progress stored on its servers survives any manipulation of the app. Without the link, a reinstall on iPhone or a data wipe on Android leaves you asking support to rebuild the account from device IDs, which is slower and not guaranteed.
Android: cache first, data last
Force stop and clear the cache
Cooking Fever not working on Android usually starts here. Open Settings, go to Apps, find Cooking Fever, tap Force stop, then open Storage and tap Clear cache. The cache holds downloaded assets and temporary files, and clearing it keeps your save. This is the step for a loading bar that stalls or a game that loads slowly then quits. Reopen on Wi Fi so it can redownload what it dropped.
Check space, updates and background apps
Playbite’s crash page for the game lists the same causes Nordcurrent’s general advice does: an outdated app or operating system, full storage, too many background apps, and hardware too old for the current build. Update from the official Google Play listing, install any pending Android update, close other apps and free space.
Clear data or reinstall
Clear data on the same Storage screen resets the game to a first launch, and uninstalling does the same. Both wipe the local save, so only do either after linking a Nordcurrent ID, or after accepting that support will need your device IDs to recover the account.
iPhone and iPad: Apple’s order of operations
Apple’s support article on apps that quit, freeze or will not open gives a fixed sequence. It is what an Apple Community member pointed to when an iPhone XS owner on iOS 14 reported Cooking Fever crashing on the loading screen, and that thread closed without a fix, which shows the limit of generic steps: they solve most cases and leave the rest to the developer.
- Swipe the game away in the app switcher and open it again.
- Restart the iPhone.
- In the App Store, tap your profile and install any Cooking Fever update. If there is none, install the latest iOS update instead.
- Free storage. iOS will not load a large game into a device with nothing left.
- Delete the app and download it again. Apple warns this may erase stored data, which for Cooking Fever means the save, so link a Nordcurrent ID first.
iOS has no clear cache button. Offloading the app from the iPhone Storage screen removes the app but keeps its documents and data, so it is the closest thing to a cache clear that leaves the save alone. Try it before a full delete.
Windows and the Microsoft Store build
The Windows version fails in its own ways, and the Microsoft Q&A threads about Cooking Fever not working on Windows are the best source of fixes. The most common report is the Nordcurrent title screen appearing and the game closing straight back to the desktop with no error.
Delete settings.dat
The fix that answered that thread: search AppData for a folder named nordcurrent, open its Settings folder, delete settings.dat, and start the game again. AppData is hidden by default, so turn on hidden items in File Explorer first. This keeps the save, because saves live at AppData\Local\Packages\NORDCURRENT.COOKINGFEVER_ followed by a random string, then RoamingState\Saves. Copy that Saves folder somewhere safe before any of the following steps.
Repair, then Reset
Open Settings, go to Apps, select Cooking Fever and open Advanced options. Repair tries to fix the install, and Windows states on the button that the app’s data will not be affected. Reset reinstalls the app and deletes its data, which the Q&A answer warned against because it removes the save. Use Repair first, and Reset only with a backup of the Saves folder or a linked Nordcurrent ID.
Not responding, black screen and Store problems
For a not responding window, the Microsoft answer is to press Ctrl, Shift and Esc together, end the Cooking Fever task, reopen, and restart the PC if it repeats. For a screen that freezes and goes black during play, the same forum pointed at the graphics driver: uninstall it under Display adapters in Device Manager, restart, and let Windows Update install a fresh one, or fetch it from the card maker’s site and try an older version if the latest fails. If the Store refuses to reinstall the game, run wsreset.exe from the Run dialog to clear the Store cache. Other ways of playing Cooking Fever on Windows exist, but the Store build is the only supported one.
What each fix does to your progress
| Action | Platform | Local save |
| Force stop, restart, update | All | Kept |
| Clear cache | Android | Kept |
| Offload app | iPhone | Kept |
| Delete settings.dat | Windows | Kept |
| Repair | Windows | Kept |
| Clear data | Android | Wiped |
| Delete and reinstall | iPhone, Android | Wiped |
| Reset | Windows | Wiped |
Wiped means wiped locally. A linked Nordcurrent ID restores the account at the next sign in, which is the reason to link it before Cooking Fever stops working rather than after.
When to write to Nordcurrent
Write to the developer about Cooking Fever not working once the platform steps are exhausted, once the game crashes on a device that meets the listed minimum, or the moment you lose progress without a linked account. Nordcurrent’s help centre says to open the profile window in the game, tap Support and copy the device IDs shown there; the same Support option in the settings menu opens a form that fills in your version, device and level. If the game will not open long enough to reach it, the published address is [email protected]. Send the platform, the exact symptom, what you tried, the device ID if you have it, and any purchase a reinstall has left missing.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Cooking Fever not working on my phone?
Usually one of four things: the app or the operating system is out of date, the device is out of storage, too much is running in the background, or the install has corrupted. Update both, free space, close other apps and clear the cache on Android. If it still fails, reinstall after linking a Nordcurrent ID so the save comes back.
Will I lose my progress if I reinstall Cooking Fever?
On a phone, yes, unless the game is linked to a Nordcurrent ID, in which case signing in on the new install restores it. On Windows the save sits in the package folder under AppData, and copying the Saves folder out before an uninstall lets you copy it back afterwards. Without either, support may be able to help using your device IDs.
Why does Cooking Fever close right after the title screen on Windows?
That symptom has one well documented fix from the Microsoft Q&A forum: find the nordcurrent folder inside AppData, open Settings, delete settings.dat, and launch again. It keeps the save. If that does nothing, use Repair from the app’s Advanced options before you consider Reset, which deletes the game’s data.
What is the difference between Repair and Reset on Windows?
Both live under Advanced options for the app. Repair attempts to fix a broken install and Windows says the app’s data is not affected. Reset reinstalls the app and deletes its data, which for Cooking Fever includes the local save. Try Repair first, and only Reset with a backup of the Saves folder or a linked Nordcurrent ID.
How do I contact Nordcurrent about Cooking Fever crashing?
Use the Support option in the game’s settings menu, which opens a form with your version and device filled in, and copy the device IDs shown in the profile window. If the game will not open at all, email [email protected] with your platform, the exact symptom, what you tried and any purchases that went missing.
The short answer
Link a Nordcurrent ID the moment the game opens, then work from the steps that keep data toward the ones that wipe it. On Android clear the cache before you ever clear data. On iPhone follow Apple’s sequence and offload before you delete. On Windows delete settings.dat, then Repair, and treat Reset as the last step. If Cooking Fever is still not working on a device that meets the minimum, send Nordcurrent your device ID and the exact symptom.
Before you reinstall, make sure the save is backed up. The steps are in our guide to transferring Cooking Fever progress to a new phone.
