Cooking Fever Duels vs Cooking Fever: What Is Different
Cooking Fever Duels is Nordcurrent’s real time player versus player spin off of Cooking Fever. The two games share a name, an art style and several restaurants, and play very differently. This guide sets out what Duels actually is, which restaurants and mechanics it borrows from the original, whether your coins, gems and progress carry across, and which kind of player each game suits. It sits alongside our other Cooking Fever guides, which cover the original game.
What Cooking Fever Duels is
Cooking Fever Duels: Food Wars is a separate app from Nordcurrent, listed on Google Play and the App Store under its own name. Instead of running a restaurant alone against a coin target, you cook against one other person at the same moment, and the higher score when the clock runs out wins.
Nordcurrent’s own account of the project, published on its site as a making of piece, says the idea came from players: after requests for new restaurants, a PvP mode was the thing Cooking Fever players asked for most. The post says Cooking Fever Duels spent about a year as a mode inside Cooking Fever before becoming a separate title, and describes its audience as mid core rather than casual. It launched on Android and iOS in December 2023.
Cooking Fever Duels is not a sequel and does not replace the original. We answer that question in is there a Cooking Fever 2, so this page stays on the differences.
How a duel plays compared with a level
In Cooking Fever, a level is a solo run. You serve a set queue of customers, the level ends when the last one leaves, and you pass if you reach the coin target. Nobody else is in the kitchen.
In Cooking Fever Duels, two players cook at once in matching kitchens. A bar at the top shows your score against your opponent’s. Each served order adds points, customers who wait too long walk out, and when the timer ends the higher score takes the match and the rewards attached to it. Talk Android’s guide and the GamingOnPhone beginners guide both describe the same loop: speed and accuracy decide a Cooking Fever Duels match, not a coin total.
Three things exist in Cooking Fever Duels that the original does not have in this form:
- Boosters picked before a match. The GamingOnPhone guide says they raise points per dish, coin and experience rewards, or cooking speed for that match only.
- Special food treats that impatient customers ask for at random. They are bought with gems or pulled from mystery boxes, and serving one adds points on top of the order.
- Match history, leaderboards and seasons. Cooking Fever Duels records your matches, ranks you on local and global boards, hands out tokens over a season, and has animated Foodie avatars to collect.
Upgrades will feel familiar. Equipment upgrades in Cooking Fever Duels raise cooking speed, refill speed and portions per batch, and food upgrades raise the price per portion, the same logic the original applies in every restaurant.
Restaurants Cooking Fever Duels shares with the original
Cooking Fever Duels launched with a short list and adds to it through updates. Talk Android’s guide names each restaurant and the player level that opens it, and the App Store notes for the January 2025 update added the Sushi Restaurant alongside a daily Calendar. The original’s figures below come from the community wiki.
| Restaurant | In Cooking Fever | In Cooking Fever Duels |
| Fast Food Court | Starting restaurant | Starting restaurant |
| Bakery | XP level 4, 5,000 coins and 10 gems | Player level 5 |
| Flavour Laboratory | Not in the original | Player level 6 |
| Sports Bar | XP level 6, 5,000 coins and 10 gems | Player level 10 |
| Sushi Restaurant | 10,000 coins and 20 gems | Player level 15, added January 2025 |
| Gourmet Restaurant | XP level 8, 10,000 coins and 15 gems | Player level 20 |
| Seafood Bistro | XP level 16, 15,000 coins and 30 gems | Player level 25 |
Two differences matter here. First, Cooking Fever Duels opens restaurants by player level, while the original charges coins and gems on top of an XP gate; the full 48 restaurant table is in our restaurant unlock guide. Second, the Flavour Laboratory is a Duels invention. Nordcurrent’s making of post says the spin off explores “what a world of cooking would be like” with magical elements, where the original sticks to real cuisine.
Do coins, gems and progress carry across?
No. We looked for an official statement either way and found none, so here is what the documentation does say. Nordcurrent’s help centre has a separate Cooking Fever Duels section, and its Nordcurrent ID article describes the ID as a way to save progress and move it between your own devices. Nothing in it describes moving coins, gems, XP or restaurants from Cooking Fever into Cooking Fever Duels, and neither store listing promises it.
In practice the two apps behave as two accounts. A level 69 Cooking Fever profile with every restaurant open starts Cooking Fever Duels at the Fast Food Court like everyone else. The currencies are not one for one either. Cooking Fever Duels uses coins and gems plus coloured season tokens, which Talk Android lists as green, yellow and red, and none of the guides we read mention gem shards.
Treat Duels as a new game, not an expansion. The 1,043,000 coins and 1,125 gems it takes to open every restaurant in Cooking Fever stay in Cooking Fever. If you install Cooking Fever Duels expecting to spend that balance, you will find a fresh account and a fresh Fast Food Court.
Cooking Fever Duels vs Cooking Fever in one table
| Area | Cooking Fever | Cooking Fever Duels |
| What you play | 48 restaurants, 40 levels each, alone | Timed matches against one opponent |
| How you win | Reach the level’s coin target | Score more points than the other player |
| Restaurants | 48 across City, Paradise Island and Alpine Resort | Seven named in current guides, five of them shared |
| Unlocking | Coins, gems and an XP level | Player level |
| Currencies | Coins, gems, gem shards | Coins, gems, season tokens |
| Competition | Optional Tournaments and Challenges, paid to enter | Every match; seasons, leaderboards, tournaments, a World Championship event |
| Daily rewards | Calendar of Rewards, daily quests | Daily quests, milestones, a Calendar added in 2025 |
| Extras | Automatic cooking machines, decor | Boosters, special treats, avatars |
| Connection | Needed to save and for events; menus open offline | Needed for every match |
| Platforms | Android, iOS, Windows | Android, iOS, Google Play Games on PC |
The competition row is the real divide. In the original, a Tournament costs 20,000 coins and 20 gems to enter and a Challenge 16,500 coins and 14 gems, so players pick their moments. In Cooking Fever Duels the competition is the whole game rather than an event you pay into. Our tournaments and challenges guide covers the original’s entry costs and payouts.
The connection question, honestly
The App Store description for Cooking Fever Duels has a section headed Always Connected and states that it is an online game requiring an internet connection. That is not a footnote. Every match pairs you with a live opponent, so without a signal there is nothing to do beyond the menus.
The original is often called an offline game, and that is only half true. Nordcurrent’s support article on why a connection is required says Cooking Fever needs one to save progress, for daily rewards, and for Challenges and Tournaments, though menus and the shop open without one. The practical gap is that a Cooking Fever level can be played in a tunnel with no signal and a Cooking Fever Duels match cannot start. The original’s needs are set out in what runs offline.
Two more honest notes. Cooking Fever Duels reviews on Google Play and the App Store repeatedly raise matchmaking against much higher level opponents and drag and drop controls that fail to register; we cannot measure how common either is, only that they recur. And the newest version on the App Store when this was written was 4.3.0, dated April 2025, so check the update date before investing weeks in a season.
Who should switch and who should not
Try Cooking Fever Duels if
- You have finished or stalled in the original and want the same cooking loop with a live opponent.
- You enjoy leaderboards and seasonal ladders more than a fixed list of levels to clear.
- You have friends who play; Cooking Fever Duels lets you challenge them directly.
- You always play on Wi Fi or mobile data and never need the game to work without it.
Stay with Cooking Fever if
- You play where there is no signal.
- You are still working through the 48 restaurants and want that progress to keep paying off.
- You prefer progress that stays yours over a leaderboard position that moves every season.
- Timed pressure from another person feels like stress rather than fun.
Nothing stops you running both. They are separate apps with separate saves, so trying Cooking Fever Duels costs your original account nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Is Cooking Fever Duels the same as Cooking Fever?
No. Cooking Fever Duels is a separate Nordcurrent app built around real time matches against another player, while Cooking Fever is a solo restaurant game with 48 restaurants and 40 levels each. They share an art style, upgrade logic and several restaurant themes, but each has its own store listing, its own save and its own progression.
Does progress carry over from Cooking Fever to Cooking Fever Duels?
Not as far as any official source states. Nordcurrent’s help centre describes Nordcurrent ID as a way to move a game’s own progress between devices, and nothing in its documentation or the store listings mentions moving coins, gems, XP or restaurants between the two games. Expect to start Duels from the Fast Food Court with an empty balance.
Can you play Cooking Fever Duels offline?
No. The App Store listing describes it as an online game that requires an internet connection, and every match is against a live opponent, so there is no single player fallback. The original Cooking Fever also needs a connection to save and for events, but its levels can be played without one, which Duels matches cannot.
Which restaurants are in Cooking Fever Duels?
Guides published for the game list the Fast Food Court, Bakery, Flavour Laboratory, Sports Bar, Sushi Restaurant, Gourmet Restaurant and Seafood Bistro, each opening at a set player level. All but the Flavour Laboratory also exist in the original, and Nordcurrent has said more content is planned, so the list may grow with updates.
Is Cooking Fever Duels free to play?
Yes. Both store listings describe it as free with in app purchases, and it uses coins and gems in the same way the original does, with gems buying special treats and mystery boxes. Season tokens are earned through play. Some reviews argue that spending does not fix matchmaking, so the free route is not obviously the worse one.
The short answer
Cooking Fever Duels is a separate real time PvP game, not an update to Cooking Fever, and nothing you own in the original moves across. It reuses five familiar restaurants and the same upgrade logic, then replaces coin targets with a head to head score. Install it if you want an opponent and always have a connection. Stay with the original if you play offline or still have restaurants to unlock.
